Long-term septoplasty results re: smell and taste?

Posted by Pat (Camano, WA) on May 14, 2000 at 01:21:54:

I've been told I have to have septoplasty because of narrow airways and enlarged turbinates. I've read through most of the old Forum archives, but still have some questions:

What were the long term effects in regard to smell and taste?

Is it better to have nasal splints than packing?

Do they "intervate" during the operation? How long do they do that?

Is the "Insta-Trank" anesthetic better than anything else?

Does it help reduce the incidence of sinus infections significantly?

Thanks for your comments --
