Dreams=REM?

I've been on CPAP for about a month. Last night I had my first really good uninterrupted sleep and I feel normal this morning. I had quite a few dreams, all pleasant. My question is this: do you dream only during REM? By knowing you had dreams, do you therefore know you got REM time?
