Past forums have messages which seem to indicate that there it is well established that alcohol consumption makes the Apnea worse and requires a higher pressure. How much alcohol for what effect is probably determined by personal factors although getting rather tipsy seemed to be an obvious no no.
If you are on a fixed CPAP and your situation is rather pressure sensitive (which your DR may know); then a couple of brews may have significant effects.
As Doug indicated, AutoCPAPs can adjust for this as long as they are set to allow a higher pressure (they typically have a max allowable pressure set). However, excessive pressure can cause Central Apnea in some people; again, your DR may have a ligitamate reason for not allowing unrestricted high CPAP pressure for you.
Best to discuss the situation with your DR to find out if he was giving you general advice about the effects of alcohol on OSA or giving specific advice about your situation -- then decide what is appropriate.
