Hi
I can't answer all your questions but I can tell you my experience with septoplasty. I had mine in October 98. I have had *NO* problems with taste or smell. For about a month after surgery I had a numb spot on the roof of my mouth but that is normal.
I had packing, not splints, and experienced no problems with that other than the expected discomfort for the 3 days it was in.
I don't know what "intervate" is so I don't know if they did it to me or not. I do know that I was "intubated" , apparently for the entire operation. I know they put it in as soon as I was out because the nurse was applying crichoid pressure as I was going out. I woke up when they took the tube out.
I had regular general anesthesia so I don't know about "Insta Trank".
I didn't have a lot of sinus infections before the operation (although I did have some) but I have had NONE since. I also breathe and sleep a lot better.
Hope that helps
Jill
