During apneas and hypopneas, as the oxygen desaturation falls and the carbon dioxide levels go up, adrenline is released causing an increase in heart rate, and an arousal to end the apnea/hypopnea. I don't think there is any correlation with the beta blockers.
I am actually taking two medications that work on heart rate, only one a beta blocker. Since I am going into the hospital tonight to try and find out the reason for a shortness of breath situation, you can best belive I will be asking a lot of questions about this subject.
