Posted by kathiesl on July 10, 2000 at 08:53:09:Well, Dh finally finished his rounds with the sleep clinic and it turns out that he also has sleep apnea. His is less severe than mine however, which leaves me with some questions.
1. Where can I find comprehensive info that allows me to evaluate his numbers in terms of the severity of his apnea? His paperwork gave a lot of numbers, but no evaluation. He had only 6 obstructive apneas, 30 hypopneas, and 3 central apneas. His oxygen went down to 76% and the longest he went without breathing was 39 seconds. My first instinct is to assume that with only 6 osas that his apnea is mild, but with all the other factors (low oxygen, central apneas, and longer duration) I'm not sure. I had 60 apneas and over 100 hypopneas, but none of the other problems.
2. With all that in mind, I'm not sure if we should be shopping for another autoPap or just settle for a regular CPAP for him (I went through insurance hell to get my AutoAdjust LT and ended up paying out of pocket for half of it anyways.) I am thinking that if we get him a regular CPAP, he can always use my AutoPap for a night or two if he suspects that he needs a different pressure. I can always use his machine for a night once I figure out how to set the pressure from *somewhere* (I know we can't do this anymore on this list - boo!) Does this make sense?? He doesn't have as many variables that would make him a candidate for an autopap as myself (pg, weight fluctuates, hormone changes, etc.)
3. Anyone other CPAP couples out there? Are there any unique considerations regarding this? I'm not talking about intimacy here, but anything else that becomes a factor when both husband and wife are using a CPAP.
At least I get the satisfaction of calling my husband "Darth" for awhile (he teased me a LOT when I first started using my machine!)LOL
TIA -
Kathie
