Well, I just have to respond. I, too, have been on CPAP a little while (going on 4 months), and thanks in large part to what I learned from this forum, I knew what questions to ask and how to make sure I got what I wanted from my DME supplier. To make a long story short, I have been using nasal pillows with a custom headgear, and have had very few problems. I do have a passover humidifier, but haven't had to use it yet (no dry nose, etc). Maybe this winter.
What a blessing! No more falling asleep at the breakfast table, swerving all over the highway, or taking an hour and a half to read the paper between naps. But the greatest benefit: I used to snore like a bull walrus. When traveling, I used to have to carry an air mattress so I could sleep on the bathroom floor in hotels and motels so my wife could get some sleep. Recently, we traveled in Alaska for 3 weeks -- I got to sleep in the bed!!! With the pillows, and having to keep my mouth closed, no snoring! Whoopee!
Anyway, I have to say that my CPAP experience has been really positive in every way, and thanks to the folks that posted problems so I knew what to avoid.
