Is it every night, or just occasionally?

Hello GirlNetJunkie,

I also notice the same problem and I bet most CPAPers at least occasionally have it. For me, it seems to occur for a couple of days in a row, then go away for a week or two, then reappear again. I've tried to figure out the pattern, but there really doesn't seem to be one.

My pressure is a constant 10. If yours is higher, maybe a BiPAP is the answer, where you have a lower exhalation pressure. I feel the problem is that for some reason, we aren't able to fully exhale the air before we start taking another breath again. The "residual air" builds up and migrates lower and lower into our stomach/bowels, etc.

It may sound funny to those who don't have it, but the gas pains/cramps can really be painful sometimes until they belch or "pphhffftttt" away, whatever. It is not only annoying, but very embarrassing and most of my early morning companions are not entirely amused, but they do understand. I end up out on the deck with my coffee most of these mornings (sigh).

Talk to your sleep doc. See if a BiPAP might work. He/she might let you try one on for size and you'll know better. You could also try gas medicine, but I tried it in the morning without much luck, and I hate to get all "drugged up" each night on that stuff for a problem that may not occur more than once a month.

I wish you well and please keep us posted,

Breezin'
