Before prescribing CPAP my sleep Dr. told me to go to my PCP and get down to my "fighting weight'.
My PCP(very slim and fit 50 something) said,"it's a load of crap, those other docs send you back to me because they haven't a clue how to lose weight and some of them are fat, you might be able to loose 10% of body weight and work hard to maintain". I have been on CPAP for about one month and the last couple weeks I have felt better than I have in years and have gained weight. The hardest part for me was tolerating the mask(s). That takes some doing and luck with your DME and therapists to get it right. Work at it hard, it is worth it.
