Gary, You have all the classic signs of obstructive sleep apnea. In my experience, many doctors are not well trained or informed about this disorder, so I would strongly recommend going to a sleep disorders clinic or hospital that has a good sleep clinic for a sleep study for apnea.(Don't let your doctor dismiss this as nothing to be concerned about, or try to solve it with anti-depressants or sleeping tranquilizers!!!) They hook you up to a series of electrodes(no discomfort) and monitor how often you have sleep apnea episodes. They also monitor many other various aspects of your sleep. They would also, perhaps on a second sleep study, attatch C-PAP therapy to you, which means continuous positive airways pressure. This is a machine attatched to a plastic hose attatched to a breathing mask you wear on your nose(sometimes over nose & mouth) that provides a certain air pressure to keep your airways open, preventing you from any breathing obstruction. It can take a while to get used to wearing the device every night, but there are numerous C-PAP machines and masks and other types of devices to streamline the one you are most comfortable with. There are a lot of links on the web about sleep apnea and C-PAP therapy. Just do a search on the internet using the above phrases, and you'll learn all you need. Unchecked sleep apnea can lead to a lot of health problems that are very serious. Your letter sounds exactly like my complaints. Get that sleep study done soon! Various medical insurances cover various devices and mask attachments. There is a wide range of prices, from reasonably inexpensive to very costly. The sleep clinic can inform you of your options. But keep in mind that the cost(if you need to pay out of pocket) is worth saving your health and feeling well each day! Let me know if there's more you need clarification on. Hope you can get the help you need soon. Best of luck! Barry
