Sleep tests are usually covered and so is a CPAP machine and mask. If you're at a university with a hospital, check and see if they have a sleep center. A lot of these hospitals have one now a days. My bill for my sleep test was $1500 and my machine(middle of the road) and mask(Cheapest kind)were about $850. They also provided a heated humidifier which goes at some ridiculous rate ($600+ ?). All covered by insurance. Go to your PCP or the student med center and, if they pooh pooh you, talk about "life threatening".
