Marie,

I agree with RenoTom. You've GOT to ride your PCP's back and get him off the stick. Or get another PCP.

Since you mentioned you're in the Seattle area, if you need the name of an excellent sleep doc and/or sleep center, I highly recommend Dr. William DePaso at Valley Medical Center in Renton. He heads up the Sleep Center there and is terrific.

Also, your PCP is capable (if he wants to) of getting a referral through the system in a matter of minutes. Then it's just a matter of getting the Sleep Center's schedule to work with your short time frame before your son goes off to school. If you explain the situation to them as you've done here in this forum, you'll probably find them willing to find ways of getting your son in quickly for the tests and prescription.

My CPAP prescription was sent to Lincare in Auburn. I got a call from them the same day. Plus, by going to their offices in person, rather than wait for the in-home delivery, I was able to have my CPAP a few nights earlier.

The only delay I encountered in the whole process was from the time my PCP first suspected apnea and the night of my first test. (The Sleep Center at Valley is getting inundated with referrals, so their schedule is full for weeks in advance.) Once the test results came in, though, everything happened very quickly.

If you wish any other information, feel free to email me at the address above.

Good luck!!
