Mary Ann
I have been on CPAP for over 4 months now. I also have had severe scarring of my eardrums from them rupturing several times when I had ear infections as a child. I have lost 50% hearing in one ear and 60% in the other. Besides that, I still having chronic sinus infections which also affects my ears. When I first started on CPAP, I had a lot of problems, but I dealt with them because for me it was more important to get my life back than to face the possible consequences of not using my CPAP. I was compliant since the day I got my machine, even though it took me over a month to really get used to it and be comfortable with it.
Your sleep doctor along with the technicians determined that you should have a pressure of 12 when you had your sleep study done. If your ENT does not work in a sleep clinic with sleep disorders, he probably doesn't understand that arbitrarily changing your pressure is NOT in your best interests. If he does work with a sleep clinic and sleep disorders, you might want to switch doctors, since you don't seem to like the one you have.
By the way, I have a pressure setting of 13. I was also checked out by my ENT (different doctor than my sleep doc) a few weeks ago because of yet another sinus infection. He also checked my hearing, and I have had no additional loss of hearing in either ear from using the CPAP or from the sinus infections.
I wish you well in your quest for a good night's sleep.
Laurie
