KC, Is this a normal sleep pattern for YOU? If not, try to stay up and go to bed at about the same time each night. Try NOT to sleep or nap during the day and relax in bed or sitting up for awhile before going to bed. Read, whatever makes you more comfortable. Go to the bathroom before you go to bed, wash your face to clear the oils so your mask seals up well. Try this and see if it helps at all. Sometimes you get USED to waking up and you kind of expect to wake it. Sure enough, you do. People have different sleep patterns and rituals before going to bed. In the timing of apneas and hypopneas, you often see a couple before you actually fall asleep, and then few or none until near wakeup time. How long have you been on CPAP. If you were like my pattern, I had a LOT of work to do to get rid of the mask demon. The more you relax, the easier it is to get used to the mask and falling asleep. Do you have to go to the bathroom when you wake up, or do you just wake up? Patterns of sleep can be broken by giving a consistency to your bedtime routine. Kind of compulsive I know, but it sure makes it easier to go to sleep with a regular routine. Just one suggestion that did work for me. Other folks might have even better suggestions for you. Hang in there, all this stuff is WORTH IT when CPAP works like it is supposed to!
