Posted by Will on August 10, 2000 at 16:29:53:Hi All,
I've been reading the forums and just want to say what a
great place this is!For at least the last 20yrs my bed partners have complained
about my snoring, legs jerking, and stopped breathing during
the night. In the last year or so I've started falling
asleep at the wheel, zoning out parties, and taking
involuntary naps at work. But wetting the bed was the last
straw!Last Friday I did the at home sleep monitoring study, and
on Saturday night I got to use Gods gift to us OSA's, a
CPAP machine. The thing blew like a hurricane, so hard that
I didn't even have to inhale at first! Any way I finaly
went to sleep after about an hour of having it on.I haven't slept that good in 20yrs. I didn't kick, jerk,
or do any of the things that keeps my wife awake at night.
I slept on my back for most of the night, which is very
unusual for me, and I woke up at 6 AM feeling totaly rested
though I didn't want to get out of bed, I was feeling so
great! I went through the day like a lark, went to a party
in the afternoon and didn't fall asleep, drove home late
at night and didn't even yawn! I wasn't grumpy or tired
all day long. Life was worth living again!Sunday night was frustrating, the machine wasn't putting
out like the night before and I was afraid that it was
broken. I almost cried I was so disapointed. I finally
decided that even broken it couldn't hurt, so I wore it
anyway. Holly smoke it worked after all! I woke up again
at 6AM feeling great! After reading the forums I now know
it was just adjusting for my particular needs, but boy was
I ready to throw it through the wall the night before.
Anyway Sunday was another great day! Then I had to give the machine back to the hospital. :-(
It's been 5 days of steady downhill decline back to where
I was before. They say it takes 2 weeks for them to review
the study. %^&%(% people, it should only take hours to read
the *^)( thing! Then I have to wait for the insurance co
to creep through their system. Can you tell I'm depressed?Anyway, I'm keeping my spirits up reading this forum and
thinking about what type of machine I should try to finagle.
The F&P HC200 looks kind of nice because of the integrated
humidifier, the air in my house is really dry in winter.
But there isn't a lot of info available about it on the net.
I would like to know if you can run it without the
humidifier on. Could I run it off an inverted when I camped
if I didn't use the humidifier? Does it have a DC option?
Does it have any of the other bells and whistles of the
other units or is it just a stripped plain jane CPAP?Or is there a better combination of CPAP and humidifier
that I could take on the road, or go camping with? What
do you all think?I have Blue Cross, Prudent Provider as my PPO, anyone have
expirience about how well/fast they cover CPAP?Dying, (quite literally), in anticipation;
