extreme nose irritation

My boyfriend has been on cpap for about five weeks now. He has used the simplicity mask and the gel mask. The simplicity mask put a big hole in the middle of his nose. The gel mask has put a hole in the bridge of his nose (which is now infected) and the spacer rubbed his forehead raw. He is a mass of scabs and weeping sores from his forehead to the middle of his nose. His respiratory therapist (from the cpap store) says this is really unusual. Yesterday, he got nasal pillows and used them for the first time last night. An angle thingy was not included. They leaked and his nose is sore. He is at the end of his emotional and financial ropes (his apnea is severe so compliance is not an issue), and his depression seems to be returning. I feel helpless and it breaks my heart to see him in such distress. Can anybody help?
