Questions:

The cork actually surrounds the entire straw & is just to seal the hole so that only the straw goes into the water, correct? (If that makes sense!!) i.e. If the straw was the exact diameter of the port in the humidifier and sealed it you wouldn't need the cork.

Why does the water need to start at the 1cm mark. Could the water line be at the bottom of the straw as long as the 13cm line was 13cm up from the bottom?

Hmmm, I think I'll try this myself somehow, it sounds rather interesting.
