ear, sinus pain and mask choices

Posted by shelle on August 25, 2000 at 21:26:19:

I have been suffering from ear and sinus infections off and on for quite some time. Currently I have both. I have been using c-pap since January and my pressure is at 11 and I use a mirage nasal mask with a Sullivan V and a humidaire humidifier. I have the worst time at night due to the fact (1) Lying down seems to activate the sinus drainage and I plug up, (2) The air pressure causes pain to my ears and (3) the headgear straps and the forehead pads cause me great pain due to the pressure they put on my head and face.
I am thinking about switching to some other type of mask that fits me differently to see if I can at least change when I am like this. I am trying to figure out what would be the best mask that wouldn't exhert so much pressure on my face and head. So for now I take benedryl and wait up until I am exhausted so I can fall asleep as quickly as possible. I usually sleep 3-4 hrs a night.
By the way, I have had to use so many medications in my ears over the last year or so that my ears have been burned by them. So I have to be on steroids for a week or two to try to reduce all the inflamation so they can see what kind of damage they have done.
I have really liked my mirage nasal mask except when I am suffering the eay I have been lately.
I appreciate any advice about the mask choices.

Thanks,

Shelle
