frightening experience

Posted by Charlene on August 27, 2000 at 06:26:30:

I need to know if anyone has ever experienced anything like this before and, if so, your input on it.

I have been using cpap for about 3 months, experimenting with different masks, adding the heated humidifier, etc. I am still waking at night but not NEAR like I was. I truly think it is just a matter of getting used to sleeping again. I am only waking up a few times where I used to wake up constantly.

Ok, here is what happened. Last night I awoke laying on my back and horrified. My mouth was so dry and it felt my throat was closed, I could not swallow everything was so dry. My heart was pounding. I ripped the mask off and jumped to the floor where I promptly almost fainted. I had to have my husband bring me a wet cloth and a drink of water. It took a bit but my heart finally slowed down. I've never been so scared. I feel like I almost died. I then went back to bed but had to have the bathroom light on, strange how the light felt comforting. I also went back to bed with a slight chill. It took a while to go back to sleep (due to being scared) but once I did go back to sleep I slept thru the rest of the night.

Thank you for listening and thank you in advance for any help offered.

Charlene
