I've had that experience, too, because I wasn't breathing. It is very frightening, and with good reason, not breathing can be a killer. Tell your doctor about it, your pressure may need to be adjusted, and try to get your mouth to stay closed. The dryness probably means the C-PAP is forcing air out of your mouth. If that is the case, it's not doing what it is suppose to -- keep your air-way open. The chin strap does not help if you are a mouth breather. Go to Apena Forum #37. Read the question posted 8/7/00 "Chinlock?" by Don Bradly. Then read Reno Tom's response posted the same day. I tried the elastic strap (only I used a 2" ace bandage) and it works wonders for dry mouth and keeping your mouth closed. Reno Tom also has directions for a strap he invented which is actually more comfortable that the straps you can buy. I made one this weekend and have to make a couple of size adjustments to get it to work right. It is not difficult to make if you have access to a sewing machine. I wish you well. Keep us posted.
