It might be due to mouth breathing whereby the air escapes from the mouth and you therefore don't get the full benefits of the air pressure. This happens alot when the pressure is fairly high (like a 11). Does your mouth and throat feel really dry when you awaken? That would be a strong indication that this is occurring. If so, you might try using a chin strap. (If that doesn't work well, you can even utilize a medical adhesive tape called transpore to tape the mouth).

If you feel that mouth-breathing isn't the problem, then I'd go back and see your sleep doc.

P.S.--- It may also have something to do with REM rebound. From what I understand, some people will experience severe REM rebound for the first few weeks on CPAP. Something to do with the body trying to make up for all those years of "lost sleep from apnea" so to speak. But it usually goes away after a few weeks.
