You raise some interesting questions which I will do a little research on it (but please give me some time). On my initial review of the Goodnight machine liturature I did not notice anything unusual in its capabilities - or in its data output; but, I may have missed something. Note that it may not be so much a question of which sensors; but what software and processor capabilities the machines have. I believe that the Mallincrodt Goodnight 418 series is probably the newest designed machine (which locks in the base processor and memory capabilities; which then determins how complex the internal software (firmware) can be - the firmware can then be updated within that capability as needed).

In this case there are seveal issues which apply to the vast majority of OSA patients. First) only a few have such problems and would need a machine to handle it (and if you do not have the problem - then that feature is not needed on your machine). Second) for those who like to be able to download and see the data (ie, have the monitoring / control software); you should know that Mallinkcrodt Goodnight software is priced at $1000+ as they do not really want the patient to have a copy (and price is their way of controlling this).

Concerning your question on why there are differences between the various machines. Two basic reasons; Technology when the machine was originally developed, and that the different Mfr's have all used different technical approaches to how an AutoCPAP should work. Fact is, that unless you have a specific problem and need a special feature to handle that; there is no evidence that the different AutoCPAP's work any better for the average OSA patient. There is also the benefit of having these differnet approaches as some people have a problem with one machine, and then a different Mfr's machine works for them due to these differences in the Detection / Response Curves of various machines.

If the AutoSet T is working for you, and you do not have a problem with UARS; then I would suggest that you not to wory about this - all machines have some feature different from the others, and the next machine will have more (how do you keep up). If the AutoSet T is not working right for you, there are pleanty of other reasons apart from UARS why that could happen (and I would suggest that you read the various comments on AutoCPAP's in this forum).

Hope this helps.
