New patient

Posted by Ed on October 20, 1998 at 09:08:52:

Hi! I'm a new apnea patient (going for my first sleep study tonight), and have been reading the forum for the last few days. I've found it to be interesting and very informative!

I do have a couple questions, nothing critical, but I'm just curious...

Most messages I've been reading from apnea sufferers refer to frequent waking during the night. I have most all the classic apnea symptoms, but rarely wake up (completely, anyway) during the night. I wouldn't even be aware of my apnea if not for my wife's description of my breathing (or lack thereof). Is this unusual?

Also, I wear a moustache and beard. If I need to use CPAP, which I assume I will, will this present a problem? Will I need to shave it to get a proper seal with the mask? If so, it's not really a problem, as I said I'm mainly just curious.

If anyone has any info to offer, I sure would appreciate it!
