Y'know it's interesting how important dreaming is to getting truly restorative sleep...last week I was on vacation with some friends in Las Vegas and we were out at the tables until about 4am...I fell asleep with my CPAP and was awakened around 10am by my friend's moving about...I felt horrible, like I hadn't slept at all. Then I fell asleep for another hour and had the most vivid, realistic, longest dream I've had in months and when I woke up, after only 7 hours of sleep, I felt great, like I'd slept all night. I am convinced that it was that last REM period that did it...unfortunately this doesn't happen every day and I usually feel I need about 10 hours...my sleep doc thinks I need a higher pressure during REM because the throat muscles relax even more then.
