Your situation is similar to mine. I was recently diagnosed a having severe sleep apnea. I was awakened by the sleep technician at four hours into my sleep polysomnography study
and put on CPAP because my blood oxygen saturation was 42% and falling. My apnea had been untreated at this severity for at least two years.
Since CPAP, most of the symptoms of apnea have disappeared except for a persistent lack of ability to concentrate, lapses in judgement, and
daytime sleepiness. I am scheduled for another sleep study and am seeing my primary care Dr. (a good one) to find out what's up with this, but I am really concerned I may have brain damage from the long-term hypoxea I lived with for so long. Time and tests will tell, but my employer is not the understanding type when I space out at work every day.
