You don't mention what your occupation is, what hours you work, or the general state of your health. No doubt these things are a major factor in the doctor's decision. Surely no one would want to endanger you or your coworkers by placing you in a situation which could lead to injury. Certainly you should call your state employment service to find out your legal rights as an employee--especially where wrongful termination is a possibility. If you are a union member, seek out help through the union.
We should all remember that sometimes even "minor" health issues can make an individual unable to do a particular job. For instance, a person blind in one eye can't be a trucker--no depth perception. However, a trucker who loses vision in one eye is eligible for job training in another occupation (at least here in MN). By all means check with state services to determine your rights--and, perhaps, your opportunities.
