Posted by Sylvia Lambaria on September 27, 2000 at 13:39:20:I was diagnosed with OSA about a 1 1/2 years ago and, after a sleep study using CPAP, was given an CPAP capable only of level 4. I have been using it, but excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) not abate. Was placed on Ritalin (5 mg/day), then increased dose to 5mg 2xdaily. Now am on 10 mg 2xdaily. Still having EDS, falling asleep at my desk (freezing in place according to my coworkers) for up to 15 minutes, waking up, continuing to work, and having same thing happen throughout the day. I also have occasions when this happens while I'm driving (to and from work or doctor appointments), just that duration is only a few seconds--like a blink that lasts longer than usual.
In Jun 2000 found that I had lower esophageal stricture and had it dilatated during endoscopy procedure. 2-3 weeks later, same feeling of 'lump in throat' came back. Found out that strictures sometimes have to be dilatated more than once before they "take".
Does anyone know if esophageal strictures can make OSA/EDS worse?
