Posted by Sandman on September 28, 2000 at 00:05:17:The world is changing, sleep is taking a back seat, with or without disorders. People coming here are not the average person. They are looking for help with sleep or wanting to help others. Soon some national ads will bring a tremendous amount of traffic to this forum. How we handle disagreements will be a very important factor for new visitors. Sleep disorders medicine is still in it's infancy and there is a lot of gray area that can be debated on and on, sometimes just taking up much needed space on the forum.
Please remember every time we make a posting it may eventually be viewed by millions of people searching for help.
Your sharing of your experiences, positive, negative and funny, is what makes this forum what it is. Nothing better in cyberspace. As the forums age, keeping the homey friendly feeling tends to be a little difficult at times. Back in the beginning rarely was there a need to remove a message. It was like one big family.
The number of visitors has grown and now removals are not rare at all. Sometimes I wait too long thinking it will get better and have to remove some good messages mixed in with a never ending battle. Other times I may move to quickly on a posting which I feel will end with the same result. Sometimes I am right and sometimes I am wrong, but I truly believe the monitoring of these forums are necessary if they are going to continue to do the great job they have done for so long.
You have not seen them but I have received many emails thanking me for the forums, saying they are saving lives. Many say they start crying reading some postings, so happy that they are not alone with their problem and finding the answers are overwhelming. These emails are due to the energy you have put into the forums and you deserve most of the credit. I don't think I could have kept up with all the work not knowing how many lives you all have touched.
If we work together, help each other, and focus on the goals, we have a chance here to save lives, and increase the quality of life for millions of people.
Lets think for a moment before posting, we can make this place a wonderful experience for all newcomers. Do we want to do battle with someone who dissagrees with our view? Or will silence bring less attention to their posting. The eyes of the world are watching and the number continues to grow.
Please read my welcome message coming up on forum 41.May your dreams come true,
Sandman
