Not so much drowsy - I find it relaxes me and makes sleep easier to achieve. I wanted something that was not going to have too great an effect on the body but would help me break through a terrible habit I've got into of waking at 2 or 3 and staying awake sometimes for an hour or more, sometimes for the rest of the night. Saw Valerian mentioned in a post on this site a couple of weeks ago and decided to try it. I'm not ready to draw a conclusion yet, but it seems to be helping. (Could be a placebo effect?)

As for apneas - whether Valerian makes them worse or not seems pretty irrelevant with the CPAP blowing 17 cm H2O into my body! Those airways stay open whether they want to or not.
