Numerous studies have shown that the use of a heated humidifier prevents most nasal problems while using CPAP.
CPAP interferes with the upper airway's job of warming and humidifying the air we breath by drying things out, which prevents the mucociliary system from removing mucus and pathogens from the lower airway.
In addition, cold air causes irritation in the airway which then gets inflammed creating more problems.
The heated humidifier provides the necessary moisture and the heat to maintain the airway in an optimum condition so that it can do it's job of expelling crud from the lungs.
