My doc says everything in my mouth (Uvula, tonsils, etc...)is huge, but CPAP works GREAT for me. Using the help of all the nice folks who've posted on these forums has allowed me to get what could only be described as a fresh start on life! (a belatd THANK YOU!!!! to all who post here!)
I think my large innards help keep the air from leaking out my mouth when using nasal CPAP, but I can and do use a full face mask and mouth breathe if my nose is stuffy.
Surgery dosen't seem like a very good answer if you can get used to the CPAP. It seems that often even with successful surgery, often the apnea may return in several years, as the throat muscles weaken with age. I think the only sure-thing surgery is to get a trach tube, but that isn't a pleasant idea for me.
Good luck,
The Papster
