The brutal truth is that you ARE sitting on a time-bomb.
There is no gentle way to say this: without treatment, he will die sooner rather than later. I would get to a doctor IMMEDIATELY and discuss your insurance and income situation; perhaps a payment plan can be worked out.
Without treatment, he will not be able to earn a living for long...
In other words, it isn't much of a cost-benefit problem to figure out that no amount of debt or whatever is too great to solve this problem. I think you're unwise to let lack of insurance stand in your way.
Sorry to be so blunt.
