facial breakout

Posted by AD on January 08, 2001 at 06:50:11:

Has anyone had problems with the straps of your head gear causing your face to breakout? I have been using CPAP for about 3 1/2 years. About a year or so ago, I switched to nasal pillows because my face is so small that I couldn't get a good seal on anything else. Anyway after about 3 months, I started noticing red scaly patches where the straps touched my face, especially on my forhead, right cheek, and right eyelid. I went to my GP after waking up one morning with my eye swollen shut and he thought it was an allergic reaction to the neoprene in the head gear. Unfortunaly, the medicine he gave me stated in the first line, "Do not use on or near your face." So that was a wasted trip. The one place on my cheek got so bad that is was breaking out in cycles. It would be weepy, scale over, flake off, and get weepy again over about a weeks period of time. I finally got some releif by covering my headgear with Polar Fleece and using some cream that I got at the health food store as everything I found over-the-counter had warnings about using around your eyes.
