There sure are food allergies. Lots of people are deathly allergic to shellfish, peanuts, and strawberries. My wife is allergic to wheat (glutin) which is in all kinds of food products that you won't expect. In her case it showed up primarily as asthema and gastric problems. After being off wheat for over a year if she has anything with wheat in it, her mouth immediately burns and sometimes blisters. Within an hour she often has asthema symptoms.
