Retention is a vague term. I would like a more definitive explanation of this condition and it's role in respiration. I assume an increase would result in systemic acidosis. I also assume it is self limiting feed back (hypothalmus?) and an increase in respiration would bring it back in equilibrium. Intuition only goes so far, as I have learned at this forum.
Is the flow rate not sufficient to empty the residual co2 in the tube or can it accumulate???
Inquiring minds want to know.
PS- this is cpap related, I think.
