Well gee Tig,
Cure is cure. This older man is for whatever reason not getting the cure. So it stands to reason he would be in tough shape. And whatever his condition, he made it to the 25 years older. You on the otherhand are getting the cure, so no matter how bad your numbers, you are rendering them harmless. It is at times a tough cure to apply, and does require vigilance, but you have an advantage. You have awareness of the condition, an understanding or the consequences, and know how to treat it. You can't lose. I suspect that this older fellow had none of these in time to make a difference, and now he feels that his apnea induced problems can't be reversed, so why bother. It probably is not reasonable to expect distressed folk to act rationally. If he spooked you into taking care of yourself, that is at least some benefit from his illness. I know my aging mother's battle with emphysema from being a life long smoker has had a profound effect on my kids. Maybe that will count for something at the pearly gates.
