Having been on CPAP for only a few weeks, I can only say that I am feeling better. I never had a "rush" of feeling great, but a general increased ability to function better. RenoTom, in a response to another post in this forum (forum54), gave an explaination that seems to fit my case as I never went below 90% O2 saturation in my sleep study. Maybe that is what is what is going on with your case. You may not be noticing a gradual increase in energy.
I was diagnosed with CFIDS ("Chronic Fatigue Immune Disfunction" or CFS or Fibromyalgia or whatever you want to call it) a number of years ago. It is difficult to diagnose as it is more of a process of eliminating other possibilities. I consider myself one of the more fortunate ones in that I had two viruses show up (Epstein Barre and Cytomegala Virus) which we were able to track through the worst of it. I say I was lucky, because I could prove I was sick to others, like my husband, who thought I was just being lazy, depressed, etc. until I was tested. The viruses are opportunistic, and don't cause CFS, so they don't show up in everyone. I wish I had known about sleep apnea at that time. In my case, I would not doubt that it was a factor in getting sick in the first place.
Before your PCP made the diagnosis of CFS, I hope he addressed the possibility of other causes. Ones that come to mind are anemia, diabetes, depression, heart, thyroid, viruses, and lupus. I know there are many other possibilities. Some of these are relatively easy to test for and would be worth considering. Since you are limited in choices for medical care, you will need to be even more involved in directing your care.
By all means, work with your sleep doc, maybe getting another titration. If your PCP is unwilling to look into seeing if there is an additional problem, maybe your sleep doc would help or direct you to someone who could.
Before you accept the diagnosis of CFS, be sure that reasonable measures have been taken to eliminate other possibilities. And even if you come to the conclusion that you have CFS, there are measures that can be taken to make you feel a little better.
