I have been doing some reading on Fatigue as related to flight crews. NASA and the FAA have a fair bit of data that shows that short naps in flight DECREASE fatigue. The FAA is currently in a process of changing the rules to allow napping by pilots. However, they move pretty slow when changing the rules.

I am attending a conference at NASA Ames Research Center in California next week entitled "Fatigue Countermeasures" that deals with type of thing. I'll let you know what new things I pick-up.
