DME Complaining to Patient

Posted by Debbie on March 10, 2001 at 19:45:59:

Hi,

I got a call from my DME complaining that BC/BS is not paying them for the upgraded mask I ordered (The Ultra Mirage). They only received $38.00 and the mask cost to them was $100.00 they wanted to know how they were going to get the $62.00 that they lost with my order. I was a bit confused because I thought that whatever the insurance company gave them for payment should be sufficient. They started to complain to me that if I would have accepted the mask that they had in stock instead of ordering the ultra mirage mask that this problem would not occur. I spoke to representative at insurance company and they told me I am not responsible to pay this money. How can these people do this? They call me at work and then expect payment for something the insurance paid for. I understand they are looking for a break even point but shouldn't this be between the insurance company and the DME not the DME and the patient. I was under the impression that you could order any mask and that the insurance company would pay. Any one else have a similar problem? I am looking at another DME provider this week but how can I be sure this will not happen again? Or am I really responsible to pay this? Really confused.
