I am not aware of any loud noise from an Ultra Mirage providing you've got the vent cover on the mask elbow fitted. In fact it shouldn't make any noticeable noise at all.

Also, the vent cover does a very good job of directing the air away from you, although occasionally you might have to make a small adjustment to your sleeping position or where the hose is.

It sounds to me as though you don't have the vent fitted to your mask???
