You should look for small, portable, works on all voltages, quiet.
Highly suggest that you get a heated humidifier.
If you are traveling a lot automatic altitude compensation may be a must have feature.
Consider a battery backup, depending on how remote your travel is. eg third world countries with frequent power interruptions, California, etc.
The mask should be comfortable, and not tend to blow off with the pressure you need. Masks also can be very noisy. Test run one if you can. Masks are VERY individual. You must try to see if you like. Try Gold seal resptronics gel type if your pressure is over 12 cM of H2O. See many comments on nasal pillows. Consider a full face mask, it may avoid other problems if it dosen't bother you to have one.
An auto CPAP like the Sullivan Resmed autoset T is considered to be one of the best. An auto CPAP helps avoid problems due to high pressures and dryness, but they are not the solve all problems CPAP either. Aparently there isn't one yet.
As to insurance every thing I have mentioned is considered optional by many insurance companies. So best of luck here. Do insist on a heated humidifier though, if you press it they will probably will give in right away on this one, as it it really is needed most of the time. If you travel it WILL be needed in many places. If you are persuasive get the auto CPAP to. The main justificaition is that you travel and the pressure is likely to vary.
