Mr. X:

Various people are trying to increase public awareness of sleep apnea. Perry has his work on machines. Scott is an expert on traches, Tiggaroo is rounding up people to persuade Oprah to do a show on sleep apnea.

I have been trying for years to connect sleep apena with other disorders, Lancet rejected one, Gut rejected another , a letter to New England Journal of Medicine on IBS was rejected. but (Time out while I break an arm patting myself on the back) Chest has accepted (with minor editing) my comments on a letter by Dr. Teramoto suggesting that adults with gastroesophageal reflux be tested for sleep apnea. I have assigned copyright to Chest, therefore I can't say more. Dr. Teramoto will have a response to my letter in the same issue.

My approach is to now submit 'comments' on papers and/or commentary letters. They seem to have room for those.

Do not be discouraged if you need to change your approach, keep trying.

Last night I spent the night in a hospital under observation following somnoplasty. guess what? I helped the admitting clerk diagnose her brother's sleep apnea. Also a nurse on the graveyard shift has her own CPAP machine. Her cardiologist dxed sleep apena. (Her ex-primary care doctor did not listen.)

Luck
