No actually your muscles are selectively paralyzed during REM sleep. REM sleep is a period of intense mental activity and to prevent the body from acting out things in REM sleep the brain paralyzes the muscles. It does not paralyze the diaphragm or the heart obviously but it does inhibit the others including the throat muscles. This is why us OSA people get so little REM sleep.
