Posted by Mr. X on April 04, 2001 at 10:30:19:Hello my name is Mr. X :-)
I've been using a bipap for now going on 8-9 years!
History:
I found I had SA after the passing of mother in 91' I was 28 (or so) and at the time I was working long distances from home and taking care of my mother for about 6 months until she passed. Then I became tired, more tired everyday then family members told me I would fall asleep and start snoring (really loud). I didn't really pay it any attention. I even went on a cruise as single, the first night - my single partner someone I didn't even know woke me up 3:00 in the morning (I thought the ship was sinking!) told me I was snoring so loudly that he couldn't get any sleep! Well to make a long story short, he called the captain and obtained another room - I got our room all to myself! On the way back home (I took the rail from FL, 24hour coach) I fell asleep in the coach car with about 30 people in it, I woke up later - there was only me and one other fellow behind me - who was still asleep! I didn't realize then but GOD was trying to tell me something! But I wasn't listening!!Part II. Finally went to a doctor for the problem and the result, no sleep apnea!! BOY! I wish I could sue that doctor now!! In the days, months to follow - GOD got my attention! I am not going to say how and what happened but I my eyes were wide open to find out about sleep apnea!
Research:
Since I was in computers, I did a search on Obstructive Sleep Apnea - OH MY GOD! I have Obstructive Sleep Apnea! I went to get tested and the results were in - a very high number of apneas per hours. The doctor said in a frank voice (LOSE WEIGHT OR DIE!). Well again that got my attention! He prescribed a bipap machine - a white box - respronics machine with hoses going everywhere and a flat humidifier (which I find out doesn't really work) - this is my new life?I have to stop now - it's not easy reliving all of it! But I am here and I have a pretty great live now but it wasn't easy! And I am here to help if I can! I'll tell you more if you would like, just let me know!
Ta ta, for now!
Mr. X
ps: I am thinking about writing a book on the subject, the title would be "Now I Lay Me Down To ... an Introduction Into The World of Obstructive Sleep Apnea - a Personal Perspective" by Mr. X (or my alias name)
What do you think?
