You don't HAVE to use the humidifier for CPAP to be effective, it just cuts down (usually) on the discomfort that would result from blowing cold dry air up your nose for hours.
It took me 20+ days before I could even FALL ASLEEP with CPAP, and then my first night wasn't very good. THe SECOND night was GREAT, and then I haven't seen a lot of improvement since - but my spouse says I am improving.
Hang in there. (Also, be sure that you aren't doing anything to prevent it from working - mouth breathing etc.).
