Symptoms of Sleep Deprivation (Long)

Posted by Colorado on April 04, 2001 at 14:58:30:

Since my sleep test revealed that not only do I have moderate sleep apnea, but I also have extensive alpha wave intrusion through out my sleep and periodic limb movement disorder to the tune of 33 times an hour, it's a wonder that I can get through the day at all. Now here's the question. Could all the sleep deprivation mimic bipolar disorder (manic depression)? I've been diagnosed with it for years until I was able to recently able to see a real power house psychiatrist, the head of the Dept of Medicine and Psychiatry at the University of Colorado. While he didn't see sleep deprivation as a root cause, we only talked about and hour and it didn't come up, but he did say that I wasn't manic depressive. It would sure be nice if once I get all this stuff treated (and I would never have known without the sleep study)that it turns out that I never had a psychiatric problem at all. Hmmmmm??????????????
