GERD-Gastroesophageal reflux disease

Posted by addy on April 04, 2001 at 17:34:34:

Well, I suspected it and today, the doctor confirmed it. I told her that I'm always hungry and that I do experience heartburn. For the past few weeks, I was taking OTC acid reducers. She prescribed a med. called Aciphex and told me essentially to give up caffeine, chocolate and acidic foods. She also said not to eat for the few hours before bed.
I told her that I wanted to lose weight and she gave me an 1800 calorie diet - bless her heart. 1200 calories is unrealistic for someone who weighs 256 pounds and should weigh about 135 to 140.
She was really great about the whole thing and didn't attack my self esteem in the least.
Meanwhile, I didn't gain nor lose weight since being on CPAP. The not gaining is a good sign.
I've heard that GERD is common among those who have sleep apnea.
