Posted by Rip on June 09, 2001 at 07:32:49:I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea. Not sure how severe yet as I'm scheduled to see the doctor June 25th for the results. She did go ahead an order the CPAP machine. All I know right now is I qualified during my sleep study for a split study having met the criteria of at least 30 episodes for at least 10 seconds each. When I had my sleep study, I slept the whole night on my back. This always makes me snore worse. (I wasn't comfortable there on my side) My girlfriend, whom I live with, says when I sleep on my side she doesn't notice me snoring as much or notice my breathing stop. Is it possible instead of the machine all I need to do is sleep on my side? It seems logical that when everything relaxes it would collapse backwards while sleeping on my back. Would it have been beneficial for them to "make" me sleep on my side during the study to compare the results? I don't mind using the machine the rest of my life if it necesaary, but will always wonder if it is needed if I sleep on my side. (or does apnea still occur regardless of sleep position?)
Thanks for any advice
