Most people do have more apneas when they sleep on their back. But if you qualified for a split night study you probably don't have a borderline case. So, I doubt that sleeping on your back will fix the problem alone. Especially if your still snoring on your side.
I was one of the unusual cases where my apneas were fewest on my right side, more on my back and the most on my left side. Go figure!
