Be upfront and honest with him (This goes for all family members, as they will probably be as uninformed about all this as your brother). Let him see and handle the equipment and try it if he wants. Having a cut-away drawing of the airway will help him to place the area of obstruction. Many of us have kids who have had to learn about apnea and CPAP and for the most part, they do just fine and take it in stride. My daughter begged me for several years (starting from when she was about 11 or 12) to get help as I snored terribly, so for her, it was a relief to have me be treated. Assure him that the treatment is painless and that it works.

Since you are a newbie, yourself, you will be on the steep area of the learning curve. As you learn about all this, you will be able to give him all kinds of information. Believe me, after a short while, you will be pretty much of an expert, especially if you hang around this site a lot.

Keep us posted and let us know if you need help. Good luck.

Pam
